Male external catheter adheres around the base of the penis and utilizes continuous suction to wick urine from the device into the designated collection. Canister events are designed to allow airflow through the device set up. Prior to starting the procedure, obtain all of your necessary supplies, clean gloves and pure wick male external catheter kit, explain the procedure to the patient, wash hands and dawn clean gloves to set up the pure wick male device, connect a canister to wall suction and set to a minimum of 40 millimeters of mercury continuous suction. Always use the minimum amount of suction necessary. Using standard suction tubing, connect the device to a collection canister. Please note that the collection canister and suction tubing are not included. If hospital policy allows, and if using a graduated canister, captured urine may be used for approximate urine output measurement. Perry care and placement before placing the device. Patients with urinary retention warnings do not use on irritated or compromised skin. Do not cover fresh surgical wounds with the device. Do not use the device with any material or in any position that does not allow for sufficient airflow precautions not recommended for patients who are agitated.
